Norconsult Africa (Pty) Ltd opened in December 2010 the new office in Johannesburg, South Africa. With the already established offices in Gaborone, Botswana and Maputo, Mozambique, Norconsult now has three local offices in the southern part of Africa.
“We are very pleased to further strengthen our efforts in the southern part of Africa”, comments Ola Norderhaug, EVP of Norconsult’s International Division. “We see a substantial potential for Norconsult to take part in developing the region further, and the establishment of this office in South Africa is a vital step in that process.”
South Africa is the largest energy producer and consumer on the continent. The new office will mainly focus on advising public and private clients in the energy sector with consulting engineering and advisory services linked to energy production, transmission and distribution. The office will over time also build up its local competence within transportation, water and environmental advisory services.
"Norconsult’s presence in the Southern part of Africa will rapidly become quite substantial”, comments Horvei, expat Norwegian and former CEO of SAD-ELEC (Pty) Ltd and most recently COO of CIC Energy Corp., now Managing Director of Norconsult in South Africa.
“By the end of 2011, we will probably be at least some 70 employees in South Africa, and that will be based primarily on attracting and employing local talent.”
Norconsult’s international strategy is based on developing and building local expertise, while maintaining a high focus on knowledge sharing within the organization. This ensures that the competence developed at larger hub offices is distributed to the smaller local offices.
Norconsults plan is to be local, act regional, and think global. Having a strong local presence while being part of a large international corporation gives us the ability to deliver on this vision.
